Mobile County honored the retirement of Probate Judge Don Davis Thursday after 25 years in office.
Davis’ career was celebrated at an event at the Mobile County Government Annex in Mobile.
Mobile County chief clerk and Judge-elect of Probate Court Mark Erwin will be sworn in Friday.
Davis was recently elected secretary-treasurer of the National College of Probate Judges. He is the first Alabama probate judge to hold a leadership role within the college.
The probate judge is the chief election officer and also handles adoptions, involuntary commitments of the mentally ill, eminent domain cases, guardianships, public records and more. Many call them the “cradle to grave” judges.
