South Alabama is mourning the loss of a young woman people have been praying over for two years.

Kaylee Carmichael was in a car crash on August 29, 2020, when she was 16. She died last week on August 23. She was 18 years old.

Her family has been keeping loved ones and community members updated on Kaylee's condition with a Facebook page entitled "Team Kaylee."

The family said they thought things were looking better until Carmichael got COVID. With her weakened state from suffering a traumatic brain injury (TBI), she was being treated from home. She had recently shown signs of communication with family. She was able to blink twice when prompted to do so.

A funeral service for Carmichael will be held on Tuesday, August 30, at 2 p.m. at Mobile Funeral Home and Crematory.

"Kaylee was an exceedingly brilliant young woman with many goals and ambitions," her obituary reads. "She was an incredible role model for her siblings and was loved by anyone that surrounded her. She could light up a room with her personality."

Carmichael was a student at Alma Bryant High School.
