The drag queen story time, which was to be held at Oyster City Brewery in Mobile, has been moved to Books-A-Million after the original event was canceled.

The event was initially supposed to feature TikTok star Ophelia “Mama Tot” Nichols and “Finding My Rainbow” author Josh Coleman. However, Nichols pulled out after receiving backlash and criticism for supporting an event where children are brought to a brewery to hear a book about a young boy struggling with his sexuality.

Wednesday evening, Oyster City Mobile announced the event was canceled due to safety concerns.

“Multiple hateful and threatening comments on social media are being taken seriously by management in the interests of our staff and customers’ safety,” Oyster City posted on Facebook. “Oyster City does not abide hate. We make beer for those who enjoy it, over the age of 21, regardless of gender, race, or orientation.”

All previous posts about the event have been removed, and no specifics on the alleged threats have been given.

The brewery will still donate one dollar for every brew sold Friday to AIDS Alabama.

Coleman said he will still have a book signing at Books-A-Million in Mobile on Friday night. He claimed there were protests of the event led by "a MAGA Proud Boy” who was in Washington on January 6. Coleman did not provide a name but encouraged supporters to "stand strong and proud."
