What a blessed way to celebrate the life of a man who retired from the Azalea City Golf Course and continued playing there for the rest of his active life.
The wife and family of James "Jimmy" Fisher, who died recently, will hold his celebration of life on the golf course on Friday, Jan. 17 from 3 to 5 p.m. With Jimmy Fisher, that’s just par for the course.
The devoted U.S. Marine will have his graveside service on January 17 at 11 a.m. at the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery in Spanish Fort.
Fisher’s retirement from the golf course was his second career. He had earlier worked for and retired from Scott Paper Company in Mobile.
Fisher’s love of golf was not his only sport. He was a dedicated servant of Mobile Youth Baseball and was named “Mister Youth Baseball” in 1983. He had coached his sons through the program.
Fisher will continue his dedication to youth baseball even in death. He has requested that memorial donations be made to:
The Junior Golf Association of Mobile is a 501(c)(3) entity. Checks can be mailed in his honor to The Junior Golf Association of Mobile, P O Box 70106, Mobile, AL 36670.
Fisher went to that heavenly golf course on January 7 after a battle with esophageal cancer. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jimmie Carol Fisher.
Daughter Jan Fisher Johnson said: "Daddy has hit another hole-in-one, his best one yet. He is now in heaven with Jesus. 'To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord!' He fought a hard battle and in the end, he won! Thank you all for praying for our family. You are loved and appreciated."
