Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson announced a meeting with Helios Alliance on Wednesday morning to consider options for millions in opioid settlement funds.

The discussion will center around the process of allocating $2.2 million in funds the City of Mobile will receive from the state’s lawsuit against the drug manufacturers found responsible for the opioid crisis.

“Earlier this summer, we contracted the Helios Alliance to conduct a data-driven analysis to determine how best to distribute the $2.2 million that the City has received from opioid-related lawsuits,” Stimpson said Tuesday during a regular council meeting.

“They will develop and manage a comprehensive RFP [request for proposal] process focusing on four priority areas on treatment, prevention, survival programs and communications,” he added.

The community meeting, which will begin at 10 a.m. at the Innovation Portal, is open to anyone interested in applying for funds and the public.

The City contracted Helios for $154,000 to review proposals and present information to the council to ensure the funds are used correctly.
