The Mobile Law Enforcement Foundation is raising money for Lt. Lorenzo Matthews, the police officer shot over the weekend.

Matthews has been hospitalized since the incident on Sunday.

"The outpouring of love and support we've received from the community so far has been overwhelming," said Mobile Police public affairs manager Blake Brown. "We continue to ask for your thoughts and prayers."

Matthews was wounded in his abdomen and remains in stable condition.

Donated funds will go directly to Matthew to assist with his recovery. Police believe the 26-year police veteran will have a long recovery but say he is showing signs of improvement.

Justin Senia and Arielle Perreault are charged with attempted murder and discharging a gun in a building or vehicle.

Police said the two planned to commit suicide by cop. They are being held in jail on bonds of $3.1 million cash.
