Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson says the city has become a hub for a diverse group of industries, which has led to job growth and economic development.

Those diverse industries include aerospace production, shipbuilding, manufacturing and distribution and logistics, with new jobs paying an average wage of $59,000.

According to the 2024 Jobs & Investments report from the Mobile Chamber of Commerce, $422 million in capital investments and 1,391 new jobs were created last year.

"The progress made in 2024 is a testament to our region's economic strength, skilled workforce and the confidence that industry has in Mobile's trajectory," Stimpson said.

"Across multiple sectors, leading companies are choosing to invest and reinvest in our community," he continued. "That's not just bolstering our economy; it's shaping a brighter future."

Mobile Chamber vice president of Economic Development David Rodgers said there were already indications that job growth will continue in 2025.

"With a 5.14% increase in Gross Domestic Product and the diverse range of industries represented in these announcements, we anticipate significant momentum in 2025," said Rodgers. "Our extensive project pipeline spans multiple sectors, ensuring sustained economic development in the Mobile region."

The Chamber and Stimpson will participate in Thursday's 27th Annual State of the City and County. The breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. at the Mobile Convention Center.

"The success of 2024 is a reflection of the vision and determination of businesses that see Mobile as a place where innovation and opportunity thrive," said Mobile Chamber President and CEO Bradley Byrne. "Team Mobile is laying the groundwork for long-term prosperity, and our best days are ahead. We are just getting started."

County Commissioners, including Connie Hudson, who is running for mayor, will also participate in the discussion.
