On Tuesday, Montgomery County Commission members approved a new government affairs contract with the Jones Group.

According to the contract, Montgomery County will pay the Jones Group $99,996 for a one-year governmental affairs and strategic communications contract beginning September 1.

According to the proposal, Greg Jones is the president and CEO of the Jones Group. Jones previously served in governmental affairs for the Alabama State Employees Association. 

"We need somebody in place now because the conversations need to start now in order that we're prepared to advertise any legislation that we want. We know that can be a long, arduous process," Montgomery County Commissioner Ronda Walker said at the meeting on Tuesday. "Our current group is not planning to renew so we need somebody in place."
