Montgomery taxpayers are paying $60,000 annually in an effort to secure more television, radio and podcast appearances for Mayor Steven Reed.

According to a contract between the City of Montgomery and guestbooker.com obtained by 1819 News, the City of Montgomery recently began paying the booking site $5,000 per month to place Reed on television, radio and podcasts.

The annual $60,000 contract began in June 2024. It also has an auto-renewal provision to extend the contract.

Since June 2024, Reed has appeared on multiple national television shows as a surrogate for former Vice President Kamala Harris’ failed 2024 presidential bid. He has also criticized Trump in numerous appearances, while barely mentioning Montgomery and its numerous problems.

In an appearance on NewsNation in July 2024, Reed discussed how Harris’ “honeymoon period” on the campaign trail would last.

“When they understand and they hear the story of how the vice president was brought up, when they hear what her convictions are, what her priorities are, I believe they will begin to like her and support her even more,” Reed said.

Reed also appeared on ABC’s "Good Morning America" in July 2024 to stump for the Harris campaign.

He then appeared on NewsNation again in August 2024 to defend Harris' avoidance of the press.

He also appeared on NewsNation in October 2024 to discuss Harris’s polling ahead of Election Day.

Reed most recently joined MSNBC to discuss Trump’s so-called “war on cities” in August.
