MONTGOMERY — Members of the Montgomery County Community Cooperative District Board fired Jason Wilson, the executive director of Montgomery Whitewater, on Thursday afternoon.
The board, which oversees the operations of Montgomery Whitewater, passed a motion to terminate Wilson, effective immediately, at a board meeting on Thursday.
“Over the last several weeks, the board has closely examined and observed and taken a deep dive into all of Montgomery Whitewater operations and workforce alignment. The question for the board is do we have the current leadership in place right now to ensure that we can reach a level of consistency and stability to ensure that this facility will be productive, safe, and profitable and not necessarily in that order,” Bobby Jon Drinkard, board chairman, said at the meeting.
Michael Jenkins, vice chairman of the board, said at the meeting, “Given the fact finding mission that we’ve been on the last few weeks, we’ve learned a lot.”
“According to what we’ve learned, I think it’s appropriate to make a motion that we relieve our current executive director of his duties and responsibilities at Whitewater effective immediately,” Jenkins said.
Montgomery Whitewater officials announced last Friday that its “on-water operation” would be closed for approximately one month at the start of its peak season. A Montgomery Whitewater spokesperson said the closure was due to water filtration system maintenance.
Montgomery Whitewater named Wilson its new executive director in June 2025.
