U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) is "cautiously optimistic" that some Democrats are starting to come around on ending the government shutdown.
On Friday's episode of "Capitol Journal," Moore said the Democrats in the Senate were losing support from the corporate media.
"I'm cautiously optimistic that some of the Democrats they're starting to come our way. I think that even the media is not covering for them as much as they were," he said. "MSNBC, CNN have even called out Hakeem [Jeffries] and certainly some of the faces of the Democratic party, saying, 'Wait a minute. You're saying this isn't healthcare for illegals, but in fact, it is.' We passed a clean CR."
Moore said the Democrats should first vote to reopen the government, then work on negotiating their "Christmas wish list with $1.5 trillion in spending."
"We just want the government open back up, and then we'll negotiate," he said. "But we're not going to allow them to use the American people and shutting down the federal government as leverage to try to get some other policies in place, whether that's healthcare for illegals or tax credits for American citizens. And so that will be another issue at a separate time. But we can't let them just begin to we're in charge. We have the majority. We've done what we're supposed to do. They need to come to the table."
