Like many Republican lawmakers, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) is still pushing for the U.S. Senate to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, even if it means ending the filibuster.

Moore was asked about the act, which would require voters to show identification to vote, and elections in Alabama, during an interview with Nexstar Media's Reshad Hudson.

"We passed it out of the House, and, obviously, we'd love to see it pass out of the Senate. It's frustrating to me. I think it's an 80/20% issue," he said. "If you poll Democrats, Republicans and independents, they all think U.S citizens ought to be voting in U.S. elections to elect U.S. leaders."

Moore said the SAVE Act would help stop voter fraud by requiring IDs and proof of citizenship and ending mail-in voting.

"Mail-in ballots, we've seen some fraud. I sit on the judiciary committee. Three hundred something thousand ballots were mailed in to this one area and counted late in Georgia. And that changed the election," he said. "I think we need to have an Election Day… A voter ID is not asking too much."

Moore said he was in favor of ending the filibuster to "at least get the thing on the floor" for a vote. If Republicans don't do it now, Democrats will end the filibuster the next chance they get, he said.

Moore was then asked whether he thought there was any election cheating in Alabama.

"We've seen a few arrests. We've seen some announcements lately, but I don't think it's at the level [as other states]," he said.

"We did the voter ID stuff in Alabama. We tried to make sure we managed it pretty well. We didn't see the rampant fraud that we've seen in other areas of the country," he added, referencing his time on the Constitution, Campaigns and Elections Committee in the Alabama House of Representatives.
