The U.S. Space & Rocket Center will host an Artemis II SLS (Space Launch System) watch party Wednesday as the crew of Orion launches on the historic 10-day lunar mission.

The Marshall Flight Center designed and built key components of the Orion in Huntsville. Lockheed Martin’s Huntsville team also provided engineering support.

The rocket will be rolled out Wednesday with a launch expected around 5:25 p.m. NASA said weather conditions are forecast to be 80% favorable for the launch.

NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, as well as CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen, will be the first humans aboard Orion. Koch’s love for space began early in her life and was catapulted by her five summers as a teenager attending Space Camp in Huntsville.

NASA will live stream the rollout, launch and mission. The community is invited to the Davidson Center for Space Exploration watch party to watch the live feed beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The NASA Mission Control Center in Houston will continuously send live data and video stream to an online platform throughout the mission.

The mission is the next step in NASA's plan to travel to Mars. The rocket will travel back to Earth at seven miles per second and will splash down off the coast of San Diego.
