A Netflix documentary is premiering this month on the 2022 jailbreak by an Alabama inmate and a female correctional officer he romanced that gripped state and national headlines.

On April 29, 2022, Casey White, a man awaiting trial for the 2015 murder of a Rogersville woman, walked out of the Lauderdale County Jail in handcuffs, escorted by Vicky White, the assistant director of corrections for the jail. On her last day on the job of a 17-year career, Vicky told her colleagues she was transporting Casey white for a mental health evaluation, only for the pair to escape and lead a nationwide manhunt for nearly two weeks.

It was later discovered that the two had developed a romantic relationship and planned the escape for some time. Casey White was serving a 75-year prison sentence for a crime spree in 2015. A  jury found him guilty in 2019 of first-degree robbery, kidnapping and attempted murder.

Marshals caught up with the pair in Indiana soon after the escape, resulting in the capture of Casey White, while Vicky died from a presumptive self-inflicted gunshot wound. Casey White is still being charged with murder in Vicky White's death, although authorities have never retracted their claim that she shot herself.

The escape drew massive national attention, which has now landed it on one of the world's largest streaming platforms. "Jailbreak: Love on the Run" will premiere on Netflix on September 25. The documentary will feature Vicky White's friends and former colleagues as they try to parse how the pair fell in love and planned the prison break.
