MOBILE — A new cruise line will be stopping by for excursion trips to Mobile next year.
Mayor Sandy Stimpson made the announcement Tuesday at the new Mobile Alabama Terminal gangway.
Carnival Cruise Lines announced last week it will resume year-round cruises in 2027. Now, American Cruise Lines announced it will make stops in Mobile for excursions beginning in 2026.
"American Cruise Lines has announced that we'll be at Port of Call," Stimpson said. "And so, in 2026, there'll be four times. The American Cruise Lines, they want to take people to ports where there are cultural experiences."
"And so Mobile, being as old as we are, they feel like there will certainly be a lot of things here to see that would be of interest to their cruisers," he added.
Next year, the six-stop "Small Ship River Cruise" from Louisiana will include four 12-hour stops in Mobile.
Both Carnival and American cruise lines will be docked in Mobile on March 22, 2026.
Stimpson said the city has invested in the terminal to expand its use.
Visit Mobile president David Clark said those investments made cruising to and from Mobile possible.
"So, just remember too that cruise ships are floating assets," Clark said. "They can go anywhere, anytime, so we have to continue to do our job and all of us are promoters. So, let's get behind it and let's go get them."
Stimpson toured the city's new gangway with other city leaders and members of the media. The next project will be improvements to the terminal's parking deck.
