An Opelika man was arrested last Friday and charged with killing his father.
Lee County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at 60-year-old James Worthy’s house on Lee Road in the Beulah community Friday night after receiving reports of a shooting. They found James Worthy lying in the yard and said he appeared to have been shot several times. The deputies tried to save his life but were unsuccessful.
According to Lee County Sheriff’s Office of Investigations, evidence led them to believe that Jame Worthy’s son, James Matthew Worthy of Opelika, was arguing with his father before he retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and shot him.
James Matthew Worthy, 33, was at the scene when the deputies arrived and was taken into custody.
James Matthew Worthy was charged with murder and is being held in the Lee County jail on a $150,000 bond.
