News of a horrific shooting at Brown University in Rhode Island hit close to home in Alabama on Sunday after it was revealed that Mountain Brook native Ella Cook was one of the two victims killed.

Several members of Alabama's federal delegation expressed heartbreak over her murder and offered prayers and words of encouragement to her family.

"Our hearts are heavy as we pray for everyone affected by the tragedy at Brown University. We lift up the victims, their families, students, faculty, first responders, and the entire campus community," U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) said on X. "May God bring comfort, healing, and peace in the midst of this heartbreak."

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) said, "Ann and I are heartbroken to hear about the passing of Ella Cook. By all accounts, she was a special young woman. Please join us in praying for the Ella's family and all those impacted by the shooting at Brown University."

"Wesley and I are deeply saddened by the horrific shooting at Brown University. We are praying for the victims, their loved ones, and the entire campus community during this devastating time," U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) said on X.

"Heartbroken tonight over the news that Ella Cook from Birmingham was killed in yesterday's shooting at Brown University. My prayers are with her family and loved ones," U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham) said.

Earlier Sunday, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) responded to reports that the alleged gunman "yelled something," possibly "Allahu Akbar," before opening fire. "The Islamic Death Cult is INCOMPATIBLE with America," Tuberville said.
