A school resource officer (SRO) was placed on leave last week after a Pelham Park Middle School parent alerted police to possible inappropriate texts.
The parent of a former student at the school called on September 4 and told police her child communicated with the SRO in May of this year. She said the texts "may be deemed inappropriate."
No allegations of physical conduct were reported, and detectives have not found evidence of any physical contact.
"An immediate investigation into the allegations began on Wednesday evening and is ongoing," police said in a statement.
The SRO was immediately put on paid administrative leave as the investigation into the incident continues. Police said the safety of students is a top priority. The department assured parents an SRO would be assigned at Pelham Park Middle School at all times.
The officer's name has not been released, and no charges have been filed at this time.
Pelham Park Middle School is part of Pelham City Schools. Students grades sixth through eighth attend the school.
