A man charged with federal gun crimes pleaded guilty after U.S Marshals and Pell City Police officers arrested him last year.

Kelvontae Rashad Wallace, 26, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a machine gun.

The machine gun charge is in connection to a December 2023 incident in Talladega in which Wallace drove up to Benny's Stop and Shop gas station and shot a person in the stomach, back and both legs. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released.

Officers found five spent shell casings on the scene, and surveillance video showed the shooting. The video showed the Glock pistol Wallace used had a Glock switch, converting it to a machine gun.

When officers went to arrest Wallace a few weeks later, he attempted to flee but was captured and taken into custody. The officers found the converted pistol in his apartment. He was charged with first-degree assault and shooting into an occupied building, in addition to the federal charges.

ATF investigated the case along with the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force, Pell City Police Department, Talladega Police Department and Anniston Police Department.
