Congresswoman Terri Sewell (D-AL07) announced she will welcome U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg to Birmingham on Thursday to highlight a new program authorized under President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Build Back Better Infrastructure spending bill.

Sewell was the only member of Alabama’s congressional delegation to vote in favor of the bipartisan infrastructure law.

“Six months ago, President Joe Biden signed the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,” Buttigieg said recently on social media. “Today, communities are underway on thousands of projects — rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure and providing good-paying jobs — with much more to come. In the last few months, my U.S. Department of Transportation colleagues and I have visited communities across the USA — from Appalachia to Alaska and between — to hear about their needs and see how our work can make it safer and easier for people to get around."

Some Republican critics of the administration have suggested that the massive federal spending spree, including Build Back Better and the American Rescue Plan Act, has fueled inflation.

Sewell represents Alabama's Seventh Congressional District which includes most of the city of Birmingham.
