A petition to stop Baldwin County libraries from exposing children to sexually explicit books is making its rounds.

Moms for Liberty is urging residents to sign the petition on the Clean Up Alabama website.

The libraries are accused of allowing age-inappropriate ideologies in children and teen sections and offering materials with sexual violence, sexual abuse and gender ideologies that are “mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically harmful to children.”

The petition also mentioned that a drag show held at the Fairhope Civic Center featured “gender-variant expressions and lawless sexually explicit conduct” in a taxpayer-funded venue.

"I urge you as my elected official to protect our children from sexually explicit material and performances as well as radical ideologies by passing legislation that prevents taxpayer-funded entities from degrading our community and preying on our children,” the petition states. “By signing this petition I agree with the legislative goals of Moms for Liberty – Alabama.”

Over the past year, Moms for Liberty members have addressed city councils and library boards statewide, challenging books and asking for their removal from children's and teen sections in public libraries.
