The only operating ambulance service in Pickens County is going out of business on December 1.
According to manager Vicky McCrory, Pickens County Ambulance Service Paramedics cannot continue due to funding issues.
"The service simply isn't making enough money to survive on its own," McCrory said on social media. "I pray that something can be done to save not only the single ambulance we have but eventually help to provide adequate coverage for Pickens County."
Last year, the service struggled to find employees. The challenge led to delayed response times.
Earlier this year, municipalities within the county agreed to pay a subsidy to keep the ambulance service afloat. However, that agreement was only a temporary fix and has not been renewed.
If officials cannot figure out how to continue the service, people in Pickens County will have to use ambulances from surrounding counties.
