The two people killed in a Life Saver helicopter crash Sunday night have been identified by authorities in Shelby County.

Marc Gann, 63, of Sylacauga, and Samuel Russell, 43, of Goodwater, were killed after the helicopter went down on Bear Creek Road near Mountain Oaks Drive. Gann was the pilot, and Russell was a registered nurse.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash before 6 p.m. Sunday, with several other agencies, including the NTSB and the FAA.

The helicopter was attempting to aid a hiker in distress. That hiker later passed away at Grandview Medical Center.

A third crewmember, Amanda Daniels, was also on the chopper and was injured. She was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover, according to Calhoun County 911.

Beer Creek Road was reopened Tuesday afternoon, around 3 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.
