The contest for Alabama's second congressional district open seat is tightening, according to a Montgomery Research survey.

According to a poll obtained by 1819 News, Republican congressional nominee Caroleene Dobson now trails her Democrat opponent, Shomari Figures, by five points in Alabama's second congressional district.

The poll was conducted by an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) phone survey of 994 registered voter respondents on October 22, with a ±3.1% margin of error.

Respondents were asked if the election were held today and if they would choose Dobson or Figures. Of the responses, 50.1% said Figures, 45.5% said Dobson and 4.4% said they were undecided.

The same survey also asked about respondents' presidential preference, finding that Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democrat nominee, has a 51.7% to 46.4% edge over Donald Trump, meaning Dobson is outperforming the top of the ticket.

The survey, coming as Election Day approaches, shows a much tighter race than prior polling.

A recent poll from Schoen Cooperman Research, conducted for the Democrat's Protect Progress on October 14-17 of 400 likely voters showed Figures with a 49% to 38% lead over Dobson.

Also, an Impact Research poll conducted for the SPLC Action Fund in late July and early August gave Figures a 51% to 39% lead over Dobson.
