Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch confirmed that Prichard Police chief Walter Knight was arrested on Wednesday. It is unclear what charges he will face.

The sheriff’s office took over the Prichard Police Department last month after the arrest of officer Emanuel Naman Dotch II. Dotch was charged with multiple federal crimes, including bribery, evidence tampering, conspiracy to commit extortion, and civil rights offenses.

Burch told 1819 News the chief’s arrest is not specifically connected to that investigation.

The sheriff’s office previously revealed the police department’s evidence room was unorganized and took custody of 148 unprocessed sexual assault kits. The office has been taking inventory of the evidence room and is working to properly package its contents.

Prichard Mayor Carletta Davis said her administration has been fully cooperating with authorities.

The Mobile County District Attorney's Office will hold a press conference at 1:15 p.m.
