U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) is warning Americans of the possibility of diesel fuel shortages while blaming the Biden administration’s efforts to implement more green energy initiatives.
Despite gasoline falling under $4 a gallon, diesel fuel is still above $5 nationwide.
According to a report from Forbes, the loss of Russian imports has caused problems for refineries as they struggle to acquire the sufficient distillate needed to create diesel fuel, jet fuel and heating oil.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Aderholt called out the Biden administration’s policies that he believes have negatively impacted domestic energy resources in the U.S.
“It’s no secret we are in this situation because of President Biden’s failure to focus on American energy. European nations, because of overzealous green energy policies, are already feeling the pain of these types [of] problems and now the Biden Administration is following suit here in the U.S., with the same results," the post read.
“I’m ready to do what I can to help ease the impact of any diesel shortages in Alabama. I also recently sent a letter to President Biden, with many of my Republican colleagues, urging him to put together a five-year energy plan to ensure that these types of shortages and price hikes never happen again.”
In the U.S., distillate fuel inventories are nearly 20% below the five-year average for this time of year, according to the Energy Information Administration’s latest inventory report.
According to OilPrice.com, The U.S. has just 25 days of diesel supply in reserve, with some regional markets very tight.
Aderholt recently joined 20 lawmakers in penning a letter to Biden, calling on him to abandon a number of his green energy initiatives and pleading for reform in America’s oil policy.
“For the past decade, countries in Europe have instituted the same unrealistic ‘Green New Deal’ mandates which you espoused during your campaign,” the letter read. “These policies have led to an under-investment in safe, reliable energy, and destroyed Europe’s domestic production, causing a dangerous reliance on Russia for 40 percent of their energy needs.”
In addition to condemning Biden’s energy policy, the letter criticized America’s reliance on foreign oil production for its supply.
“The American people have suffered long enough because of your destructive energy policies,” the letter concluded. “We must do everything we can to avoid a future like the one we are seeing in Europe by increasing our investments in American energy, where we have the highest standards in the world. It is time to unleash our nation’s vast energy resources and give the American people.”
