U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama Prim Escalona is reportedly being considered for acting U.S. Attorney General if Donald Trump is elected next week.

According to POLITICO, Escalona could be one of Trump's options to appoint as acting or temporary Attorney General at the start of his term if elected while his permanent pick for the role goes through the Senate confirmation process.

According to the outlet, Attorney General Bill Barr tapped Escalona to fill a vacancy left by Jay Town in July 2020. Escalona's experience includes working in the DOJ's Office of Legislative Affairs and Office of Legal Policy and as a law clerk to conservative appeals court judge William Pryor Jr.

"I wouldn't pick Prim if you're trying to, like, do shenanigans," an unnamed Trump DOJ appointee told POLITICO.

POLITICO notes Escalona has "demonstrated an independent streak at times: Her signature is absent from a suit the Justice Department filed last month challenging Alabama's voter purge policies."
