Congressman Mo Brooks (R-AL05) last week, joined by Congressman Andy Biggs (R-Arizona) and 13 Republican colleagues, sent a letter to President Joseph R. Biden (D) supporting the Western States Sheriffs’ Association’s position of no confidence in Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The Congressmen called on Biden to remove Mayorkas from his post.
“The Western States Sheriffs Association knows the #BidenBorderCrisis best,” Brooks said. “They’re fighting it on the front lines. They believe DHS Secretary Mayorkas needs to be fired and replaced with someone not in over their head. I joined Congressman Andy Biggs’ letter to Joe Biden expressing my agreement.”
Previously, Biggs led the charge in calling for Secretary Mayorkas’s impeachment in August.
“Secretary Mayorkas must be held accountable for the crisis he has created at our border,” Biggs said in a statement. “Instead of implementing policies to secure our border and protect Americans, he continues to push policies that restrict the enforcement of our laws and incentivize and reward illegal immigration. For the sake of American sovereignty and security, Mayorkas must be removed.”
The letter of no confidence sent last week was signed by sheriff's association President Leo Dutton, sheriff of Montana’s Lewis and Clark County, and Executive Director James F. Pond.
“America’s sheriffs have watched in disbelief as the southern border has turned into an invisible line in the sand,” the letter read. “Since his [Mayorkas’] appointment we have seen his policies enacted that are personal and political ideologies that continue to dismantle the security of our country and the enforcement efforts of the hard-working federal officers assigned to an extremely difficult task.”

The Biden Administration and Congressional Democrats have prioritized climate change and improving social equity within the United States over border security issues.
Brooks has been a strong proponent of increasing border security and tightened enforcement of America’s immigration laws. He has represented Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District since 2011. Brooks is a 2022 candidate for U.S. Senate.
