With pledged contributions from Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed and several city council members, the reward for information regarding the triple murder that occurred outside a Hispanic grocery store now sits at $40,000.

Earlier this month, Montgomery police responded to a shooting at the Tienda Los Hermanos grocery store on the Troy Highway. Two of the victims, George Elijah Jr., 50, and Daniel Lopez, 20, were pronounced dead at the scene, while another, Romero Lopez, 43, was pronounced dead later at the hospital.

The killings come as residents in the city have become increasingly more vocal about city leadership's failure to address rising crime.

Police said the murders were a result of a robbery, which has been a common occurrence in the city's Hispanic community in recent months.

Police have not announced any suspects and have made no arrests in the murders. However, city officials have pledged funds to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest of the shooter or shooters. Reed announced he would provide $10,000, and Central Alabama CrimeStoppers pledged another $5,000, bringing the total cash reward to $40,000.

Montgomery City Council members Oronde Mitchell, Charles Jinright, Glenn Pruitt, Andrew Szymanski, and Julie Beard pledged to contribute $5,000 each.

Police are asking those with information to call the Montgomery Police Department at 334-241-2651 or Central Alabama CrimeStoppers at 334-215-7867.
