If you think you have never paid more money to fill up the tank, you are correct, as Alabama set a new record for fuel prices. Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Alabama) called on President Joseph R. Biden to remove artificial barriers to increasing domestic oil and gas production in response to reports that Alabama’s gas prices had hit a new record high.
“As gas prices continue to rise, Joe Biden is starting to rival Jimmy Carter for the worst president ever,” Rogers said in a statement. “President Trump made our nation energy independent by using our vast natural resources. What’s frustrating is that Joe Biden has restricted our ability to produce oil and gas here at home – he instead would rather buy oil from the Middle East or Venezuela. Folks in Alabama don’t need Joe Biden’s Green New Deal nonsense – what they need is to be able to fill up their tanks so they can get to work without paying an arm and leg. Joe Biden needs to put America first just like President Trump did.”
For eight days in a row (and counting), the price of gasoline has hit an all-time record. For the first time ever, every state has average gas prices over $4.00 a gallon. Americans were already predicted to spend an additional $2,000 in gas expenses earlier this year when the national average price was $4.07. Now that financial burden will only continue to increase House Republicans announced in a statement.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) hosted a roundtable discussion with several House Republicans and small business owners from across the country. The business owners detailed the struggles they are facing in this economy, specifically regarding the increase of gas prices.
Dwight Mashburn, the General Manager of Mashburn Transportation Services, told the GOP congressional leaders, “We have the resources here locally to produce [the energy resources] the country needs and to quit importing it from other countries. We’re not given the green light to do so, even though we’re the best at what we do.”
McCarthy said on his blog, “He’s right. Under one-party rule, Democrats have made attacking our country’s domestic energy producers a top priority. Just last week, President Biden canceled federal oil-lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska, taking two of the most resource-rich areas in the nation off the table. To make matters worse, Biden’s Securities and Exchange Commission is in the process of promulgating a rule that would discourage investment in the oil and gas industry and create an uncertain regulatory environment for these producers at a critical time. We need more American energy, not another attempt at placating his activist base.”
Ranking Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Washington) and Congressman Bruce Westerman (R-Arkansas) have introduced a bill, the American Energy Independence from Russia Act, that would promote domestic production by restarting oil and gas leasing on federal lands and water — which was halted by the Biden administration.
That legislation is not likely to be considered on the floor of the House because the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (D-California), sets the agenda for the House and agrees with Democrats’ climate agenda that is working to decrease American oil and gas production.
Congressman Mike Rogers (R-AL03) is serving in his tenth term representing Alabama’s Third Congressional District. He faces a challenge from Pell City plumber Michael Joiner in next Tuesday’s Republican primary.
