House Majority Leader Scott Stadthagen (R-Hartselle) is taking a leave of absence for a few weeks as majority leader, according to multiple sources.
Stadthagen announced recently he is running for Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) chairman. The leave of absence will allegedly last until after the chairman’s race is decided on March 7.
State Rep. Chip Brown (R-Hollinger’s Island) has been named interim majority leader. The House Republican Caucus had a sometimes contentious meeting after the House gaveled out for the week on Thursday.
Stadthagen confirmed the leave of absence to 1819 News on Thursday. Brown didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from 1819 News.
