The Birmingham Police Department made a second arrest in connection to the murder of Birmingham firefighter Jordan Melton.
Eddie Jerry Jones, 47, of Fultondale, was charged with capital murder.
Melton and another firefighter, Jamal Jones, were shot at Fire Station 9 on July 12, 2023. Melton was taken to the hospital, where he died five days later. The other victim survived.
Birmingham’s Special Operations Bureau’s Crime Reduction Team took Jones into custody on Wednesday.
“We are appreciative of the Melton and Malone Family, BFRS Chief Cory Moon, and all our brothers and sisters of the BFRS for their patience as we diligently continued to work on this case to bring those responsible to justice,” BPD stated in a press release.
Damien McDaniel was also charged with capital murder in the shooting. McDaniel also faces murder charges in 13 other shootings across Birmingham.
Both suspects are being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
