As police continued investigating a shooting that claimed one life and injured nine just before the Moon Pie Drop in downtown Mobile, more shootings have been reported throughout the city.

The shootings happened in a parking lot, a store and an apartment complex.

The first shooting was reported on Jan. 2 at 1:45 p.m. when a man was shot while sitting in his car in a parking lot in the 1000 block of Government Street. The shooter fired several shots at the man, but he was only grazed by one round. Mobile Police responded but haven’t released information on the shooter.

Later that night, someone shot into a window at the Family Dollar at 1281 Dauphin Island Parkway. No one was hurt, and no arrests have been announced.

Less than an hour later, a man was shot around 10:10 p.m. at Dauphin Gate Apartments. The 23-year-old victim died almost instantly and was pronounced dead on the scene. No information has been released about the shooter.

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson told Fox 10 that Mobile is a destination where people feel safe.

“Over the last several years, it has become a safe place where people feel comfortable going, and it will return to that,” Stimpson said. “We’re going to do every single thing we can, working with everybody to make sure family, friends and visitors can go downtown and not have this kind of occurrence.”

He said a task force had been formed to bring those involved in the New Year’s Eve shooting to justice.
