Police have charged a second 18-year-old suspect in the June triple homicide at a Mexican grocery store that sent shockwaves through the community and increased the outcry for city leadership to address violent crime.

DeQundray Danell Savage, 18, is now the second person charged in the triple murder, currently residing at the Montgomery County Detention Center without bond.

In July, authorities apprehended 18-year-old Jarques Butler after a foot pursuit involving the Alabama Law Enforcement Aviation Unit.

Both Savage and Butler are charged with capital murder of two or more people and capital murder in the course of a robbery. The criminal complaints list both as the killers of all three victims.

Savage was already in the Montgomery Detention Center after being charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of robbery.

On June 4, Montgomery police responded to a shooting at the Tienda Los Hermanos grocery store on the Troy Highway. Two of the victims, George Elijah, Jr., 50, and Daniel Lopez, 20, were pronounced dead at the scene, while another, Romero Lopez, 43, was pronounced dead later at the hospital.

The killings came amid residents in the city becoming increasingly more vocal about city leadership's failure to address rising crime.
