Andy Blalock on Wednesday qualified with the Alabama Republican Party to run as a candidate for Congress in Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District.

Blalock describes himself as an outsider, who has been running an issue-oriented campaign outlining exactly what he is going to do as the next Congressman.

Blalock is the only candidate who has pledged to serve on the Election Integrity Caucus. He says he is the only candidate with a plan to stop illegal immigration once and for all. He also said that he is the only candidate to call for the impeachment of President Joe Biden over the loss of life and botching of the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“The collapse of Afghanistan is due to complete failure of leadership,” Blalock said. “It is clear President Biden is incapable of leading our country on foreign policy and military. He has squandered decades of work and lives sacrificed by our military. There is now no hope for stability in Afghanistan.”

Blalock is running against better-funded candidates, but he is focused on outworking them.

“Our team has been aggressively door-knocking for months," said Blalock.

Blalock has outlined a plan for stopping illegal immigration once and for all. His plan includes:

  • Building the wall,

  • No federal government payouts to illegal immigrants,

  • Increasing funding for ICE,

  • Ending chain migration for non-immediate family members,

  • Ending the catch and release program that allows criminal illegal immigrants back onto our streets,

  • Ending sanctuary states by holding back federal funding,

  • Prohibiting taxpayer dollars from paying for attorneys for illegal immigrants,

  • Ending the abuse of asylum claims,

  • Ending the visa lottery system,

  • Prohibiting illegal aliens from receiving taxpayer-funded benefits such as health care, welfare and housing,

  • Increasing penalties on businesses that purposely hire illegal aliens,

  • Requiring mandatory employer verification,

  • Re-evaluating criteria for refugee status,

  • Improving background checks on visas,

  • Withholding certain federal funds for states that allow illegal immigrants to get drivers’ licenses,

  • Ending visa overstays,

  • Increasing penalties for human trafficking,

  • Increasing funds for courts dealing with deportation disputes, and,

  • Enacting merit-based immigration reform to expedite the naturalization process.

Blalock also outlined his plan for ending the government’s deficit spending:

  • Ending quasi-government paid lobbying,

  • Instituting a balanced budget amendment,

  • Limiting government spending to rate of inflation,

  • Instituting the Line Item Veto for the President,

  • A hiring freeze for all non-essential employees,

  • No new entitlements,

  • No more bailouts,

  • Reducing the number of federally owned vacant properties.

Blalock is a teacher and rancher. He was the first male in his family to attend college and earn a degree. He graduated from the University of North Alabama in 2007 with a degree in biology and secondary education. He moved to Huntsville in 2007 and has been teaching for the Academy for Science & Foreign Language for 14 years as a middle school Science Teacher, where he is a sponsor of the SGA and Chairs Positive Behavioral Instructional Support.

Blalock has served as the National Barrel Horse Association director over 13 North Alabama counties and developed the “Honey Pot Barrel Racing Productions,” hosting barrel racing events all over Tennessee and Alabama.

As an educator, Blalock has come out strongly for a parental bill of rights and opposition to the teaching of Critical Race Theory.

Blalock has signed both the “No New Taxes” pledge and the Term Limits pledge.

Blalock is running for the open Fifth Congressional District. Incumbent Rep. Mo Brooks is running for U.S. Senate.

Casey Wardynski, Dale Strong, and Harrison Wright are also running for the CD5 Republican nomination.

Qualifying remains open until 5 pm on Jan. 28.
