MONTGOMERY — The Alabama Senate confirmed the appointment of retired Democrat Jefferson County Circuit Judge Carole Smitherman to the Alabama Ethics Commission on Tuesday.
Smitherman is the wife of State Sen. Rodger Smitherman (D-Birmingham) and mother of Birmingham City Councilwoman Crystal Smitherman.
Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth appointed Carole Smitherman to the commission.
Smitherman said during a Confirmations Committee meeting on Tuesday, “I look forward to this opportunity.”
“We take the law very seriously. You have my commitment that I will do a very good job,” Smitherman said.
The Senate also confirmed David Pruett to the Alabama Ethics Commission on Tuesday. He is an appointee of House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter (R-Rainsville). The Senate also confirmed former Vestavia Hills City Councilman George Pierce to the Alabama Ethics Commission in March. Pierce was appointed to the commission by Gov. Kay Ivey.
