People in the Shiloh community of Coffee County have filed a lawsuit against Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) director John Cooper after months of back and forth between state and federal officials.

Cooper is being sued for illegal takings and breaching the 180-day mark of a voluntary resolution agreement between state and federal leaders, WDHN reported.

The problem stemmed from a bridge ALDOT repaired. Residents said the bridge caused damage to their property and said that still, water gushes into their yards through pipes.

Residents said they need the problems fixed and said ALDOT shouldn’t allow floodwaters to ruin their homes.

Some in the community have even gone to Washington, D.C. to address lawmakers. They told WDHN that U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) is working on getting houses for impacted residents.
