A sold-out crowd will gather this Friday in Birmingham for 1819 News' inaugural Albert Patterson Gala featuring keynote speaker Eric Metaxas.

Titled "An Evening of Courage," the gala at the Barber Motorsports Museum and Event Center offers an opportunity to celebrate bravery and honor a select few who have demonstrated a high degree of resolve with the Albert Patterson Courage Award.

Named after Phenix City attorney Albert Patterson, who was gunned down shortly after winning the nomination for Alabama Attorney General in 1954 for vowing to root out corruption, the award is reserved for the brave few Alabamians who risk their life, livelihood, and personal reputation to do what is right and necessary.

This year's recipients are U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), Gregg Phillipps, and Concerned Doctors, Dr. Jordan Vaughn and Dr. Stewart Tankersley.

Conservative author and radio host Eric Metaxas will also speak on the importance of fighting for what's right even at great personal risk, just like Patterson and this year's award winners have done.

Some of Metaxas' more recent works include a biography on German pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer titled "Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy" and "Letter to the American Church."

Those who missed out on this year's event will have the opportunity to attend next year as 1819 News honors another slate of brave people fighting for the values many Americans and Alabamians hold dear.
