Tuesday's runoff election results for the Birmingham City Council and the Birmingham School Board favored incumbents, except for J.T. Moore, who was defeated.
Additionally, local Black Lives Matter activist Eric Hall, who had previously lost a bid for city council, was defeated by the largest margin of any candidate in the runoff election.
With 99% of the polls reporting, WBRC showed in the race for City Council District 4, Brian Gunn defeated incumbent J.T. Moore, getting 68% (676 votes) of the vote to Moore's 32% (323 votes).
In the open seats for District 8, Sonja Smith defeated April Myers Williams 66% to 44% to replace Councilwoman Carol E. Clarke, who did not seek reelection.
For District 9 incumbent LaTonya Tate overcame a challenge by former State Rep. John Hilliard, winning with 54% (921 votes) to his 44% (724 votes).
Three school board races were on the ballot. District 2 incumbent Neonta Williams defeated challenger Terri Michal.
In the closest race of the night, Antwon Womack won the District 8 race, defeating Pamela Bass with 755 votes to her 730.
Yamika Foy won with 70% of the vote, defeating Eric Hall, co-founder of the Birmingham Black Lives Matter movement, with 1,126 to his 485.
According to the city's election website, new City Council members will take office on October 28.
