A two-month state grocery tax holiday for Alabama shoppers is ending on Tuesday.

Gov. Kay Ivey signed legislation into law in April, temporarily suspending the state’s 2% portion of the grocery tax for two months, beginning in May.

"Any time we can responsibly provide some relief for the hardworking people in our state, I am all for it," she said at the time of the signing.

The temporary grocery tax holiday is scheduled to end on June 30. It didn’t apply to local grocery taxes.

Ivey and state lawmakers have cut the state's grocery tax from a 4% to 2% rate since 2023.
