MONTGOMERY — State Rep. Matt Simpson (R-Daphne) has been taken to the hospital "with an unknown illness."
State Rep. Joe Lovvorn (R-Auburn) took a point of personal privilege shortly after the House gaveled in on Tuesday, announcing that Simpson had fallen ill.
He then led the chamber in prayer.
"Members, just want to take a moment of personal privilege — one of our members, Representative Simpson, has been taken to the hospital with an unknown illness, and if we could just have a quick moment of prayer for his speedy recovery," he said.
UPDATE: Simpson was taken to the hospital to be treated for appendicitis, Lovvorn later announced.
