State Rep. Matt Simpson (R-Daphne) is "recovering well" after being hospitalized for a medical emergency on Tuesday, according to his wife.
Marina Simpson shared an update on Facebook on Wednesday, thanking everyone for their concern.
"Thank you for all the prayers and concerns for Matt. It warms my heart that so many of you love and care for him," she said. "A quick update. He is doing really great considering the setback. He is recovering well and comfortably medicated. Doctors are very pleased and said he will be as good as new. I know we haven't been able to respond to all the texts and calls but we appreciate everyone one of them."
State Rep. Joe Lovvorn (R-Auburn) said Tuesday that Matt Simpson likely suffered from appendicitis, which Marina Simpson confirmed in a Facebook post the same day.
Marina Simpson also called out the media for reporting on her husband's illness before she was able to contact her children. She said that, due to the unanticipated "media response," she would not provide further updates.
"On another note, yesterday's media response was not one I would have ever anticipated," Marina Simpson said. "I understand that being an elected official opens a lot of your life to the public, but some things shouldn't be. Unfortunately, I spent so much of my day trying to deal with all of the press when I should have been focusing on Matt. For that reason, I do not intend to post any further updates."
