Based on early polling, State Sen. Greg Albritton (R-Atmore) is one of the three frontrunners in the race for the second congressional district's Republican nomination.
Albritton, who serves as the chairman of the Alabama Senate General Fund Budget Committee, hopes the disciplined budgetary approach he has led in the Alabama Senate will catapult him to the Republican nomination.
During an appearance on Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5's "The Jeff Poor Show" last week, an impassioned Albritton said he would take what he has learned in Montgomery to Washington, D.C.
"Don't you think that's valid?" he said. "Don't you think that's a proper comparison? I mean, my goodness, when you take a look at how Alabama has taken the fiscal aspects. I mean, we're not like New York or California or Illinois or other places that have taken federal money and foolishly spent it. We have saved it. We have used it and put it in the ground in Alabama. We have used our resources properly. Our credit rating is moving up. The feds' are declining. We have huge surpluses. They have huge deficits. We're paying off debts and they're running up debts, continually. The country is on a fiscal death spiral right now. And Alabama is on the ascendancy as far as fiscal responsibility."
"My goal is to take what I know from what I have learned and carry that to Washington and try to save our fiscal responsibilities, our tax dollars and our nation, if you will from this irresponsible spending and printing," Albritton added. "We've got to stop that."
