After just a few weeks of campaigning, Vice President Kamala Harris is leading former President Donald Trump in several presidential election polls despite not winning a single primary or putting forth any concrete policies.

Some politicos are calling it Harris' “honeymoon” phase and expect the polls to even back out. State Sen. Sam Givhan (R-Huntsville) predicted last week on Huntsville’s WVNN “The Dale Jackson Show” that Harris would win the national vote due to her reenergized base, which could lead to a close race for the electoral college.

“What I'm seeing is that liberals that were … dead about Biden. I mean, it's flat, not enthusiastic,” Givhan said. “All of a sudden now, they see hope, they see possibility, and they've got more energy. I don't think it's changed anybody that was in the middle of the fence.”

He continued, “I would say that the national vote is going to go for Harris. I'm pretty confident in that. You know, that doesn't, that's not the way we count things… What that's going to be is she's going to really run the score up in Illinois, in New York, in California, Washington State, Oregon, New England. She'll really run the score up there. But … it just still gets down to, what's Arizona going to do? What's Pennsylvania going to do?"

“She's probably going to seal Michigan. But Wisconsin, golly, it's going to be close. I mean, that may be enough with Minnesota in there. Maybe that's going to bring Wisconsin along. Maybe that's her strategy," Givhan added.

Givhan said if Trump can win a few key states, the race may come down to which candidate takes Pennslyvania.

“By my math, if Trump can quit talking about Kemp and hang on to Georgia and hang on to Arizona and Nevada, you know, it's all about Pennsylvania,” Givhan said.
