Friday, during an appearance on Huntsville radio WVNN's "The Dale Jackson Show," State Sen. Arthur Orr (R-Decatur) reacted to Gov. Kay Ivey's call for Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs commissioner Kent Davis to resign earlier this week and Davis' rejection of Ivey's overtures.

When asked by host Dale Jackson about the possibility of impropriety within the Department of Veterans Affairs by Davis or since-removed Alabama State Board of Veterans Affairs member John Kilpatrick, the north Alabama lawmaker voiced his skepticism.

However, he voiced approval of the Governor's handling of the situation.

"I don't think we're at that point yet," Orr replied. "I did get a call from the governor's office [Thursday] before they made the announcement or released the letter. But I don't think we're at theft or graft or anything like that."

"I just think we're outside the lines that the feds drew," he continued. "And there's certainly some issues and problems with that. Anyway, I think Governor Ivey is dealing with the situation as she needs to."

"The commissioner answers to her and the board," Orr added. "And hopefully we'll move forward with a stronger Veterans Affairs Department after this."
