President-elect Donald Trump winning the general election brings a "new dynamic" to what legislation lawmakers will introduce in the 2025 session, according to State Sen. April Weaver (R-Brierfield).

Trump won the election on a message of increasing border security and decreasing illegal immigration.

Weaver said on a recent broadcast of Alabama Public Television's "Capitol Journal" that the change in administrations in January would allow legislators to do more than just play defense against the policies of President Joe Biden.

"We have been working on that legislation related to immigration since our border trip. The new dynamic in that is we have had an election since that time. Not only is it going to change our immigration legislation, I think it changes a lot of what you're going to see throughout the coming session. Specifically for our immigration legislation, we were playing defense to a lot of the Biden policies when we first started talking about this," Weaver said. "Since the election, we'll be looking to see what changes President Trump will make and I think it's more of a strategic process in: now what can we do once we see what direction they're going, what can we do to help strengthen those federal processes that President Trump will be putting in place related to immigration?"
