A Sarasota man has been arrested in connection to a shooting involving Auburn running back Brian Battie, his brother Tommie and three others in the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Darryl Bernard Brookins, 28, was arrested Wednesday afternoon with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Task Force. He has been charged with murder, attempted murder and as a felon in possession of a firearm in relation to the case.
No motive for the shooting has been released.
Brian Battie was hospitalized in the shooting and is in critical condition, while his brother Tommie was killed at the scene.
Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze has asked for prayers for Brian after he said the running back suffered a "setback." Battie is currently on a ventilator.
A GoFundMe set up for the Battie Family has almost reached its goal of $100,000 raised.
