A suspect is currently on an immigration hold in Marshall County after a shootout with police that left one person injured.

According to the Albertville Police Department, officers responded to a fight involving a gun on Tuesday in the 100 block of Bobwhite Drive in Albertville.

Officers arriving on scene found one victim injured, allegedly by his older brother. While tending to the victim, the brother opened fire on police. Officers returned fire and the suspect, later identified as Nicolas Pascual-Gaspar, 26, ran back inside his home.

More officers were called to the scene, and the Marshall County Joint Special Response Team arrived as backup. The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries

After a two-hour standoff, Pascual-Gaspar exited his home and was arrested without further incident. The suspect was taken to Huntsville Hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound. He was discharged on Wednesday and booked into the Albertville City Jail on unrelated warrants. He was then transferred to the Marshall County Jail, where he was placed on a $1 million bond, charged with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer, one count of attempted murder, and one count of illegal possession of a firearm.

Pascual-Gaspar was also placed on a federal immigration detainer through the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency. Marshall County Sheriff Phil Sims said Pascual-Gaspar is Guatemalan.
