At least two construction workers on the scene of an illegal immigration raid in Gulf Shores escaped as the Gulf of America Homeland Security Task Force descended on the location Tuesday.

The two drove a Chevrolet Tahoe through a fence and then escaped into the woods on foot.

Approximately 37 suspected illegal immigrants were arrested at the site of the new Gulf Shores High School.

The FBI Mobile said ambulances had to be called to the scene for evaluations, but no injuries were reported.

Gulf Shores City Schools and the City of Gulf Shores released a statement on Tuesday afternoon, saying, "The City of Gulf Shores and Gulf Shores City Schools are aware that a federal immigration inspection was conducted at the construction site of the new Gulf Shores High School. The construction site is under the complete control of the general contractor, and no city or school employees were present at the time of the inspection. We encourage inquiries for any further information regarding this inspection to be directed to the parties involved."

Rabren Construction has not responded to a media inquiry regarding the matter.

The subjects were transported to federal facilities for processing.
