President-elect Donald Trump and so-called “co-President” Elon Musk are responsible for House Republicans abandoning an earlier version of a continuing resolution to fund the federal government, according to U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham).
House Republican leadership originally wanted to pass a 1,400-page bill with a wide array of non-essential spending to win Democrat support. However, that effort was abandoned on Wednesday after backlash from rank-and-file GOP members, Trump, Musk and many others.
Sewell said on Thursday that Trump and Musk “ordered” the House GOP to “abandon the bipartisan funding deal and shut down the government just days before the holidays.”
